A Poem For The Day

This lovely poem pretty well explains the power of traditional blues.  I stumbled across it the other day and thought, "yep, that's just it."

"The Blues"
by Billy Collins

Much of what is said here
must be said twice,
a reminder that no one
takes an immediate interest in the pain of others.

Nobody will listen, it would seem,
if you simply admit
your baby left you early this morning
she didn't even stop to say good-bye.

But if you sing it again
with the help of the band
which will now lift you to a higher,
more ardent, and beseeching key,

people will not only listen,
they will shift to the sympathetic
edges of their chairs,
moved to such acute anticipation

by that chord and the delay that follows,
they will not be able to sleep
unless you release with one finger
a scream from the throat of your guitar

and turn your head back to the microphone
to let them know
you're a hard-hearted man
but that woman's sure going to make you cry.

We're feeling pretty lucky here at THP Central.

In the past few weeks we've run into and connected with not one, but two really amazing NYC-based bands who play soul-packed tunes, and work their donkeys off around the city (and beyond) doing it.  And the best part is, after some pleasant 'how-de-do's' and 'great to see ya's!'...we are fortunate enough that we get to support these two bands at one of their own shows.

The first is for Brandi & the Alexanders.  You'll notice their old school flavor pairs neatly with our own.  This wonderful group has a residency at Pianos coming up, and we'll be one of the opening acts.  See the whole thing August 13th, starting at 7pm!

The second band is the mighty, mighty Jane Lee Hooker.  We'll be taking off at a sprint with these incredible women on September 9th at The Rock Shop, starting at 8pm, and we'll be hooting and hollering all the way to the finish line.

Connecting with artists who are pursuing the same musical goals as we are is pretty invigorating.  Come check these guys out.  We guarantee you'll feel lucky too.

Dead Things (Live at The Delancey, NYC)

Here's another video from our set at The Delancey, the gloriously rowdy, grungy LES venue.  Enjoy the THP blues original, "Dead Things," one of the new studio tracks to be included on the upcoming singles release After the Storms next month.

Our thanks to Calandra Amore for the videography.

Tribute To B.B.

As a tribute to the late, great (ain't no debate!) B.B. King, THP performed his classic "How Blue Can You Get" at the beautifully grungy LES venue, The Delancey, a couple weeks ago.  The king is missed.

Pics From The Delancey Show

Here are a few pics that capture the energy of our recent show at The Delancey.

Many thanks to Calandra Amore for the shots.

Silvana Tonight

A reminder that we play a great venue tonight--Silvana--a lovely restaurant tucked beneath the Harlem streets, where people go to really hear what the bands are laying down.  And the drinks ain't bad either.

Come on out.  We start at 9p!  And it's totally free!
